At the Colby Center for Dance & Performing Arts, we have several different team programs for students who want to be more involved! While we know that many young dancers want only to dance for fun & exercise, we also recognize that many want to pursue dance even further!
As a dancer who is looking for a more intensive program, or a team envoironment, there are many levels of committment, so that you and your family can take small steps, and add things on as you like! Some of you may seek a lower-commitment level community performance opportunities, while others may have or develop the interest for intensive competitive dance, and preparation for college and/or professional dance! No matter what your interest level, we have a team for you, once you have reached a particular level of training.

"COMPETITION DANCE STUDIOS" have recently been negatively stereotyped due to over-the-top "semi-reality" television programming that focuses on the negative and often outrageous antics of a VERY small number of dance studios, and dance and pageant families. The Colby Center is NOT one of those studios!
While we acknowledge that there ARE dance studios that give competition a bad name, it is important for everyone to realize that there are outrageous individuals and ideas in EVERY sport and extracurricular activity, but that does not make the activity itself harmful if the RIGHT studios, instructors, and fellow dancers are found! We have a strong reputation for excellence, but just as strong a reputation for professionalism and great attuitudes, and that is the reputation we are most proud of!
While it may not be every dancer's goal to be a part of a competition team, being at a studio where there is such a team means that the staff and team dancers are being exposed to other sources of choreography, learning good lessons about confidence, improving their staging skills, and developing skills that help tremendously in the professional dance world. This is a benefit to the training of competitive and non-competitive students alike because it raises the depth & training standards at the studio.
Watch ANY episode of So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With the Stars, Dance Life, Glee, any few music videos, or High School Musical, Camp Rock, and the upcoming remake of Footloose - you'll see literally DOZENS of former child dance competitors, all of whom gained their stage presence and polish from being a part of competition dance. It is a wonderful, rewarding way to make your first steps into the professional arena, or even just to be a part of something magical, memorable & fun.
Competition dance at a GREAT STUDIO can be a GREAT EXPERIENCE!
